Synopsis
You get to the point where you can just say it. There was never anything special about me, except my father is rich and important. That's why it happened. It was just a normal Tuesday afternoon. I was twenty-three and thinking about my new designer boots. They kidnapped me for ransom. They raped me before I was rescued. My therapist says that talking about it means I'm starting to heal. I don't really think I am. It's even harder to talk about Gideon. He couldn’t save me when it really mattered, so he keeps trying to save me now. He refuses to give up on me, and I can’t make him understand. There are some things you just can’t be saved from. Warning: Salvation is a love story that follows a difficult path of healing after sexual assault. It is a true contemporary romance, but it addresses very hard issues, including rape and attempted suicide. Please consider whether this book is for you.

My Review:
SalvationSalvation by Noelle Adams
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Salvation details a young woman's journey of healing after a brutal abduction. 23 year old Diana is living and working what she believes to be a fairly ordinary life. Her father is a wealthy executive at a company, but other than providing for Diana financially, he has been a fairly distant father. One day, she is kidnapped for ransom and brutally raped before her rescue. Her life changes from that point on, and despite having the money to go through the "proper" healing process she finds that everything is a struggle. Gideon is anFBI agent whose cover had been recently busted, and he was in the same cell with Diana when she was brought in and then attacked. Despite his best efforts to save her from being physically harmed, he is not able to prevent the attack, and letting go of that failure is something he is not able to let go of.

This story shows that even with a lot of money and resources, healing from a sexual assault can be a life long process. Watching Diana put the pieces of her life back together and move forward is a difficult but rewarding journey. Seeing how Gideon continues to do his best tup support her throughout was really heart warming. It was clear that through everything that was hard for both characters to deal with, underneath it all they both had a strong desire to help the other move forward. I think the author does a good job of presenting how healing from a trauma isn't always a linear thing. There are steps forward and backwards, and there is no one event or situation that will suddenly cause someone to be "healed". Even though it brings up a lot of difficult emotions, it is rewarding to go through this process with Diana and fall in love with Gideon during all of it. It is a tough story to read, but I would recommend this to someone interested in seeing how a life interrupted can move forward even though it doesn't feel that way sometimes.

Noelle handwrote her first romance novel in a spiral-bound notebook when she was twelve, and she hasn’t stopped writing since. She has lived in eight different states and currently resides in Virginia, where she teaches English, reads any book she can get her hands on, and offers tribute to a very spoiled cocker spaniel. She loves travel, art, history, and ice cream. After spending far too many years of her life in graduate school, she has decided to reorient her priorities and focus on writing contemporary romances.
