My Review:

Finding JuneFinding June by Caitlin Kerry
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

June has finished college, and even though she doesn't have her next move figured out quite yet, she feels okay about things. That is until everything fell apart. Her boyfriend of the past three years dumped her while on vacation citing her lack of having her life figured out as one reason. In addition- she is feeling lots of pressure from her parents, and the world in general to figure everything out and get a "real job" in her field. She leaves for a few months to get away from everything, but at the end of summer returns to find that she doesn't know any more about who she is or what she wants to do with her life. She returns to her old serving job while she tries to make some sort of plan for her life. June meets new co-worker Reece who grew up in that area, but left after high school to deal with his own problems in life. Even though June is incredibly attracted to Reece, she knows that losing herself in a relationship while attempting to figure out who she really is isn't a great idea. This becomes more and more challenging as Reece seems to be someone who really understands her and provides her with more support and guidance than she has experienced before.

This book was a very pleasant surprise. I read a lot of books in this genre, and sometimes feel that the situations and story arcs end up being very similar to one another. That wasn't the case here. I felt like these characters were unique, and while June struggled with situations that I think many of us can relate to, the story felt fresh and easy to connect to. One of the best things about June is that she felt real. She was prickly and crabby at times and didn't do or say the right things much of the time. June was having a rough time in life, and for most of us in the world, that doesn't come in a pretty easy-to-fix package. It was hard to find much wrong with Reece. Besides being completely hot and seemingly perfect, he completely took June's mood swings and erratic behavior in-stride, and didn't take any of her crap personally. He was exactly what she needed him to be and it felt great to experience that through June's perspective. I loved when she would get irritated at how great he was and try to express that to him. It was also wonderful to experience when she would try and give him back all the love and support he showed to her when she had the chance, and when he needed it. Their chemistry was great, and I was so happy for these characters to find some happiness in one another when they were both dealing with some difficult life changes.

I enjoyed going on this journey with these characters. I will not hesitate to read more by this author in the future.
