Kayden: The Past by Chelle Bliss- Review

Kayden: The Past (Love at Last, #0.5)Kayden: The Past by Chelle Bliss
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Kayden Michaels is attempting to get his addiction under control and as part of his rehabilitation, he is asked to write a journal that looks at the relationships he has had in the past and the choices he's made that brought him to the present. He has experienced a youth filled with family dysfunction and hardship. Kayden has used sex, alcohol, and other drugs to cope with many of the challenges in his life. He is at a point in his life where he wants to make sure he does things differently to be worthy of those he loves.

Despite Kayden often making impulsive and unhealthy choices, it is hard not to want him to find happiness. There have been people in his life that he has treated badly and he has definitely has plenty of self-destructive moments that have hurt people besides himself. Through it all though, he has been mostly up-front and honest with the people in his life, and underneath it all he just wants to love someone who loves him in return. It is difficult to see him give himself in relationships where he ends up being hurt. He's not perfect by any means, but it always feels like he really wants to be a loving boyfriend/husband.

I stayed invested in Kayden's story, although I wasn't ever fully connected. I always felt like I was being told a story rather than experiencing it myself. It was interesting to learn how Kayden came to be the person we came to know in Untangle Me. If you have read and enjoyed Untangle Me, you will likely enjoy this deeper look into Kayden's life and history.
