The Color Pink by Parker Paige- Review and Virtual Book Tour

The Color Pink
By Parker Paige
Publication date:  September 14, 2013
Genre: Romance

Synopsis

Can wearing the color pink attract true love?
That is the question Summer Jones intends to answer.

In her early thirties, Summer Jones thought that she had found the perfect man, the man she planned to marry until she learned that he still had feelings for his first love.  Now, at age thirty-five, Summer is ready to fall in love again.  After she hears that wearing the color pink can attract true love, she sets out to do just that--and attracts more than just true love.

Follow Summer as she journeys into the world of color magic and find out how she uses that magic to help her choose between one man from her past and another man who is destined to become her future.

This romantic drama serves up something fun and sexy, proving that the road to love can be paved with many painful lessons and memorable moments. It’s a story about paying attention to your past so that you don’t always have to repeat it.

My Review:
Summer has just turned 35 and is struggling with her desire to be in a relationship. Her ex-boyfriend keeps going back to his first girlfriend, yet Summer can't stop herself from still wanting to be with him. She meets a very nice man who she likes, but she still can't seem to let her desire for her ex-boyfriend go.

I struggled with most of Summer's decisions most of the way through this book. Despite our being close in age, I didn't really feel any connection to her character. This is likely because aside from our sharing a love of books and tea, I know that Summer and I would not be friends in real life. We could be pleasant co-workers, but she is not someone I could see connecting with on many levels. I had John's number from the beginning, and one thing I could relate to was having a friend make bad relationship decisions, but knowing that you need to let her see it through anyway. I thought Sarah Jane was a great friend because she was honest with Summer, but supported her without judging her. We should all have friends like that. Morgan was a very nice person, but I didn't really connect with him either. This may also be because in real-life we would probably not have enough in common to be friends.

For me, there was a little too much new-age/self-help love going on, but I think there are other readers who may really enjoy that aspect of the story. The dialogue was a little choppy at times, but the story flowed pretty easily and I was engaged enough to have opinions about what I wanted to happen and the choices I thought the characters should make. I believe there will be a lot of readers whose personal tastes will not conflict with aspects of this story the way mine did, and who will really enjoy this story.  I'll round this up to 3 stars.
