No Turning Back by Casey Peeler- Release Day Launch and Review!

No Turning Back Synopsis:

After getting involved with Dylan, the bad boy of the Dixon High Swim team, Charley decides to stay close to home for college. It’s just safer that way. Later, she realizes it’s a mistake, just like dating Dylan. She decides to put the past behind her and leave the small hick town of Grassy Pond. There is only one problem; she makes this decision three weeks before the fall semester begins.

Charley packs up her Honda and heads to Southern College. On the morning she’s about to leave, Cash walks back into her life. He has been her best friend since they were four and is the only one who knows the REAL Charley. She leaves her farm in Grassy Pond with all kinds of “what if” questions.

Charley decides to live her college career to the fullest. She finds a great group of friends, joins the swim team, and meets a guy named Joe. He’s got eyes that make ya wanna melt!

At college, she encounters a new problem. Charley has been away from home for only forty-eight hours before she breaks the two promises she made to herself. Will she be able to overcome her past? Find new love? What will happen with Cash now that he is back in her life? Will she find what she is wanting in Jackalope Joe? How will her first semester of college end? Joe, Cash, or alone?

No Turning Back (Full Circle #1)Review of No Turning Back by Casey Peeler
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Charley is a country girl about to head to college and attempt to explore her independence and discover herself while not losing sight of her roots. She was involved in a terrible relationship in high school that ended in an awful way, and Charley is determined to move forward in her life and not let that event and relationship hold her back any longer. She goes away to school and meets Joe, who is charismatic and fun. Charley is still emotionally and physically attached to her best friend Cash from back home, and is trying hard to allow herself new experiences while not losing what she already has.

I love how straight forward and honest Charley is. She is completely up front about her feelings and intentions and it made her character completely endearing. I loved how even while she faced strong attraction to both Cash and Joe, she laid it all out there for both of them knowing that being completely honest could cause her to lose one or both of them. I also enjoyed how she was true to herself and held strong to her own needs and beliefs.

Charley's friends are fantastic, and it was nice to see her put a healthy support system in place both at home and school. Cash is obviously a big part of that support system, and he is someone that anyone would love to have in their lives. Doesn't hurt that in addition to being completely supportive and respectful, he is also super hot. A combo to appreciate for sure! Joe is an interesting character, and at times it is a true struggle for the reader to figure out who the better choice for Charley is.

There is an element of mystery to this story and there are a couple things that we are trying to figure out during most of the book. A huge piece of information is revealed to us right as the story ends, and will make it difficult to wait for the next book in the series to come out so that we can see what happens next. At times the dialogue was a little choppy and there were a couple situations where the characters didn't seem completely authentic, but overall I would recommend this book, and I will be continuing with the series as soon as the next book is released.

Prayer for the Dead by Nicki Scalise- Release Day

Prayer for the Dead Release Day.

This is the story about a girl who lived, died, and met a guy… in that order.
Is it possible to find true love and happiness, while condemned to purgatory until the ends of days?
Olivia Brennan wasn’t eager to find out. Working for a division of Purgatory and Associates, her job consisted of one headache after another, caused by the impatient souls waiting to move onto eternal paradise. After a hard day at work, she was most content to stay home, watching reruns or reading a book. Aside from a few friends occasionally forcing socialization, her afterlife was nothing special.
That all changed the moment Drake walked into her life. He was handsome, charming, and had a sadness behind his eyes she could relate to. It seemed that Fate had finally brought her a kindred spirit…
But could Olivia move past her own dark regrets of the life she left behind or would falling for him demand the ultimate sacrifice—herself?

I stole a peek across the desk at the blonde in a cheerleader’s uniform. The young face was scrunched up in an unflattering scowl, sizing me up as she smacked her gum. The behavior was rude but since she’d just been through a major upheaval, I gave Chelsea some leeway. I decided comfort was a better option as opposed to discipline. So I chose to break the ice with the tried and true standbys of compassion and hospitality.

“Hello Chelsea, my name is Olivia and I’m going to be your liaison.”

POP!

Chelsea and I stared at each other in silence. Besides being given the cold shoulder, there was something about this girl rubbing me the wrong way. She reminded me of someone, but I couldn’t place whom.

I forced a smile in her direction. “Did your Reaper explain everything to you?” Receiving nothing more than an eye roll in response, I tried again. “You understand where you are and what’s happened, correct?”

“Yeah, I know where I am. Wanna know why?” I raised my brows, waiting for the smart-mouthed answer that was sure to come, “Because I’m not stupid.”

Oh right… I knew who she reminded me of, every snotty bitch that made my high school experience a living hell. Oh boy, lucky me, I get to put up with her for the next week.

Why can’t I ever just get a nice old lady who’ll sit with her hands folded neatly in her lap and patiently await her turn? Her silver hair would be curled in a halo around a tiny face, she’d call me “dear”, and, when I’d apologize for the wait, she’d pat my hand saying, “It’s all right, honey. I’m in no hurry.” But no, instead I get Chelsea the cheerleader.

I hate cheerleaders.

All of You by Christina Lee- Review

All of YouAll of You by Christina Lee
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Avrey has had a rough family life, and in response has decided that she will take full control of her sex life and will only have no-strings-attached sex with men. Bennett has had a rough family life, and in response has decided that he will not have sex until he is in love. Avery has an instant attraction to Bennett, and decides she would really enjoy a night with him. He ends up moving into her building, and as they get to know each other it becomes clear that their intense chemistry and developing friendship is going to pose serious issues issues and questions for both of them.

This book had an interesting take on two people dealing with similar situations in different ways. It was also exciting to read a book where the typical gender roles of promiscuous person and virgin meet and challenge each other were reversed. It is always exciting when an author mixes things up in a way that helps us think about things in a different way.

I suspect it is impossible to read this book without falling a little bit in love with Bennett. In addition to being hot and creative, he is thoughtful and kind. He takes care of and responsibility for people even when they don't treat him well, and he is very loyal. I loved the building tension as he and Avrey both sought out and fought against their growing feelings for one another. Their chemistry was scorching, and the steamy stuff was fantastic.

I really enjoyed Avrey's character as well. I adored her relationship with Mrs. Jackson. It was really touching to see her getting some much needed support and guidance when she definitely didn't get the support she needed at home. The dedication and responsibility she had for her brother and his happiness and well being was admirable, and really helped me connect with her character. I enjoyed her friendship with Ella, but at times I felt like Rachel's character was a little too over-the-top.

The pacing of the story was good and there was just the right amount of build- up, tension, and angst as Avery and Bennett found their way through their own situations and relationship. Overall, I would highly recommend this book and would gladly read more by this author.

Get ready people...

Have you read Consequences

If not- get on it.  This book was dark, crazy, and amazing with a great big sucker punch right at the end.

Lucky, you won't have to wait (like I did) to read
I loved this one even more than Consequences (and that is saying something).

Now we are getting ever closer to the release of the 3rd in the series

Seriously people- go read the first 2 if you haven't already.  I'm not going to lie, there is some pretty crazy stuff and you will likely experience a lot of uncomfortable feelings, confusion, and the like.  But if you want a series that will make you think, and make you feel (and feel you will...a whole variety of emotions)- then this is a series to read.  I'm a believer that any book that can get me experiencing strong emotions is a good one.  Even if the emotions are challenging.

Teasers for the 3rd book will start arriving October 4th and then the big release will be coming October 8th.  This gives everyone plenty of time to read the first 2.  Primarily because after you reach a certain point in the story, you won't be able to stop reading.

Trust in Me by J. Lynn- Review

Trust in Me (Wait for You, #1.5)Trust in Me by J. Lynn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Trust in Me should be picked up and read by anyone who enjoyed Wait for You. Here we get the same time frame, and story, but from Cam's perspective. After reading Wait for You, I was more than happy to spend some additional time with these characters. Cameron Hamilton is a great character, and getting to experience everything from his perspective just made me love him more. It was also interesting to experience getting to know Avery without having access to her thoughts and experiences like we did in Wait for You.

This book doesn't stand alone- you need to read Wait for You first. It is a wonderful companion though, and it really got me excited for the next book in the series!
